Septic Tanks and Wastewater Treatment Systems

Wastewater treatment systems and septic tanks are both a great way for a household to expel unwanted sewage. Although they are based on the same idea of safely discarding sewage, they each have unique qualities that can help determine which method is best for you.

Septic Tanks
Septic tanks have two compartments; one that allows solids to settle, the second to further breakdown effluent to the point where it is safe to release into the environment. Once the effluent has been processed through the entire system it can be released from the tank. The fluid then enters the ground where it is broken down further. It is never recommended to ingest this water or use it as a primary resource for watering plants. Septic tanks utilize a traditional water system that has worked for years that requires minor maintenance on the homeowner’s part.
